How to analyse fluoride at the cement plant?

Reliable fluoride measurement in raw meal, kiln feed, clinker and cement is a crucial basis for a successful implementation of clinker mineralization in cement plants.

Regain compiled a technical document to provide guidance how to analyse fluoride in these materials by using a potentiometer with ion selective electrode (ISE) for fluoride. The basic principle consists in digestion of the sample with sodium hydroxide in a nickel crucible followed by dissolution in water and citric acid. After buffering the solution, the fluoride concentration is determined using an external calibration. Calibration standards with known concentrations of fluoride are required to establish the external calibration curve.
