Kurri Kurri The 160,000 tonnes per year Kurri Kurri Smelter is located in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales approximately 40 kilometres by road west of the city of Newcastle. The Kurri Kurri plant was started in 1969 and was closed in 2012. Regain successfully refined waste material on site from 2001 to 2016.
